Strengthening Water Resources Management platform
WaterAid Timor-Leste, PERMATIL, and Similie conducted a national workshop on strengthening the water resources platform to introduce resilient water resources management platforms, increase understanding of the impact of climate change on water resources, and share the lessons learned and best practices from the community who utilize the water resources management system.
Climate change has huge implications for the quantity and quality of water resources. As an effort to respond to the risk, WaterAid Timor-Leste has been working with PERMATIL and Similie to strengthen the water resources platform. In its implementation, the team combined the technology and natural-based solutions in Loidahar and Hatuquesi villages in Liquiçá and Bubussuso and Fahinehan villages in Manufahi.
Therefore, on the 26th of March, WATL, PERMATIL, and Similie conducted a national workshop strengthening the water resources platform in CNE Hall Dili. It aims to introduce resilient water resources management platforms, increase understanding of the impact of climate change on water resources, and share the lessons learned and best practices from the community who utilize the water resources management system.
The workshop began with the opening speech by the Country Director of WATL, the Executive Director of PERMATIL, and the representative of SEEAS. Followed by the presentation by Similie about the activity progress in the rural community whereby the team has installed 18 water level indicators and 4 all-weather station devices across Liquiçá and Manufahi.
Our collaborative work with PERMATIL focused on water and soil conservation through building retention ponds, check dams, and terrace rings that contributed to the recharge of 35 new springs in Loidahar, increased water debit at the water sources, and decreased the risks of natural disaster in the project field areas.
The workshop also featured testimonies from the Chiefs of Water User Groups from Panderi Liquiçá, Bubussuso, and Darema Manufahi, as well as presentations by the Chief of Bubussuso, Loidahar, and the representative of SMASA Liquiçá regarding the positives changes in their villages.
Participants of this meeting came from the national and municipal Governments such as the representative of SEEAS, representative of SEDL, DNB/MTA, DNRAS, DNMG, BTL, APC, SMASA Liquiçá & Manufahi, Administrator of 5 Post Administrative (Maubara, Liquiçá, Bazartete, Same, Fatuberliu), Chief of Villages, Chief of GMFs, and the civil society.
