WASH climate inequalities Timor-Leste 2024
This briefing note aims to document the climate resilience experience of marginalised populations in rural communities, particularly in Manufahi and Liquiçá, to inform the project implementers and
adapt strategies to address the unique needs of diverse communities. It seeks to understand the impact of climate change on these diverse individuals and explore interlinked WASH issues and resilient solutions from their perspective. Specific objectives include:
1. Gather evidence of the WASH-climate impacts on people experiencing discrimination, exclusion, and marginalization in Liquiçá and Manufahi to ensure it informs the municipal WASH system.
2. Engage Rights Holder Organisations (RHO’s) and local service provider partners to document these findings as part of an action learning activity to also inform our community engagement; advocacy, and capacity strengthening activities.
3. Document the status of women's and persons with disabilities' participation and influence in WASH planning and decision-making processes. Describe the extent to which climate resilience and inclusion are currently considered in rural WASH planning and implementation processes for target municipalities.
This initiative is part of WaterAid Timor-Leste’s Haforsa Ligasaun ba Igualdade, Reziliénsia, daptasaun no Sustentabilidade ba BESI / Strengthening connection for equality, resilience, adaptation and sustainability of WASH) project (HALIRAS), supported by the Water for Women Fund.
