WaterAid Timor-Leste Provided two days Inclusive WASH Facilities at HCFs Operation and Maintenance Training to the Health Workers in Liquiçá Municipality
On 14-15 of May, WaterAid Timor-Leste (WATL) through the Strengthening Healthy Life (HAMOS) program has provided 2-days operation and maintenance (O&M) training on the inclusive water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities at the health care facilities (HCF) to the health workers in Liquiçá municipality.
The Country Director of WATL, Mr. Justino da Silva on his opening speech said that these 2-days training aims to improve the health workers’ knowledge and ability in performing minor operation and maintenance of the WASH facilities in their health care facilities, including taking active role in maintaining the sustainability of the inclusive WASH facilities.
Liquiçá’s Municipal Secretary of Social Affairs expressed his expectations that the training could help them to better utilize the existing inclusive WASH facilities at HCFs and delivered improved health services to the community.
During the O&M training, Mr. Domingos Alves as the Technical Coordinator of WATL facilitated the sessions using the WATL’s recent Operation and Maintenance of WASH Facilities at the Health Care Facilities. The 2-days training were filled with the important sessions that started with the opening session, followed by the Safeguarding and Safe-Programming information session, and continued with the theoretical session of O&M, particularly knowing the accessories and tools of the O&M. The participants also had the practice session in conducting operation and maintenance of the WASH facilities at the Municipal Health Department office.
After the completion of the 2-days training, Doctor Beatriz Rodrigues Pereira from the Maumeta Health Post representing other participants expressed her feeling in participating the training as she learnt valuable things about the O&M of WASH facilities at HCFs, O&M cycle, tools and accessories WASH O&M, safeguarding, and safe-programming. She added that these knowledge and skills would be helpful for her and other health workers in maintaining the sustainability of their inclusive WASH facilities at HCFs.
