In September 30,2024, the National Platform for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene of Timor-Leste (PN-BESI-TL) realized a national seminar activity with the theme “Raising Public Awareness on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (BESI), Gender Equality, Disability and Inclusion Social (GEDSI) including Climate Change”. Participants who participated in the national seminar are; Secretary of State for Electricity, Water and Sanitation, National Director of Decentralization and Local Government, Vice President of Timor-Leste Water, Public Enterprise (BTL-EP), National Director of Water and Sanitation (DNRAS), Head of Department, Secretary of State for Inclusion (SEI), representative of the Ministry of State Administration, PNDS, WaterAid Timor-Leste , Care Timor-Leste, ADRA Timor-Leste, Head of Suku Bairro-Pite, Alola Foundation, Foundation Hafoun East Timor, Etadep, HAK Association, TLCE, GFFTL, Representative Chife of Village Madohi, students from the University of Peace, National University of Ea

The objective of this activity is to raise public awareness, especially relevant entities to prioritize the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector is including Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and Climate Change in Timor-Leste. Also relevant entities such as relevant Ministries, National and International NGOs, Local Authorities and University Students have knowledge about the problems and challenges related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Timor-Leste.

In the intervention and opening of the Secretary of State for Electricity, Water and Sanitation (SEEAS) said that Water, Sanitation and Hygiene to become important factors for development in other sectors, if talking about the Health, Agriculture, Education and Infrastructure sector save the Water and Sanitation sector and when there is no development in that sector, other sectors will not be able to run. The Secretary of State for Electricity, Water and Sanitation plan to cooperate with other relevant entities is including NGOs to directly to the community to identify problems of community access to water and sanitation in order to find the solutions to ensure sustainable and inclusive supply.

The national seminar activity also included sessions to share information from relevant entities such as; National Director of Water and Sanitation Regulatory (DNRAS), How to Government Policy, through DNRAS for integrated development in  Water and Sanitation sector linked to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion and Climate Change in Rural area and Areas Urban (the Law and Policy them) Decree Law No. 04/2004, Water Supply Policy and Water Resources Management Policy. Executive Vice President BTL-EP, Talk about the Water Supply and Sanitation to Communities (the Progress and Challenges) and the Non-Governmental Organization Water Aid Timor-Leste (WATL) to presented on, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Integrated into Gender Equality and Social Inclusion  (GEDSI) is including Climate Change in Timor-Leste.
