Water for Everyone and Everywhere
Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene is an inalienable human right of everyone. It is stipulated in the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste’s article 6 objective of the state in section e, to promote the building of a society based on social justice, by establishing material and spiritual welfare of the citizens. Section f, to protect the environment and to preserve natural resources. Article 57 on health, stated that Everyone has the right to health and medical care, and the duty to protect and promote them.
WATER FOR EVERYONE AND EVERYWHERE
The Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste article 61 on environment, section 1, stated that Everyone has the right to a humane, healthy, and ecologically balanced environment and the duty to protect it and improve it for the benefit of the future generations. Section 2, the State shall recognise the need to preserve and rationalise natural resources. Article 139, natural resources, section 1, the resources of the soil, the subsoil, the territorial waters, the continental shelf and the exclusive economic zone, which are essential to the economy, shall be owned by the State and shall be used in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with national interests.
